PHOTOBOOTHS IN MOVIES & TV

Il Profeta

Dino Risi (Italy, 1968, 100 min.)

In this comedy directed by Dino Risi, the filmmaker teams up with Vittorio Gassman, star of Risi's biggest success, Il Sorpasso (and no stranger to the photobooth himself from The Glass Wall, 1953). Gassman plays Pietro Breccia, a hermit whose story gets picked up by a TV crew, and their subsequent attention returns him, against his will, to civilization.

In one scene, Ann-Margret, at her Ann-Margret-est, rides a Moto Guzzi V7 700 motorcycle up to a photobooth (inexplicably plopped on a public promenade along the Viale America in Rome, power source nowhere in sight), takes a strip of photos with her sweater pulled up, then stops a stranger, sells him the strip, and rides off. It's very 1968.
