PHOTOBOOTHS IN PRINT

Hilhaven Lodge: The Photo Booth Pictures

Brett Ratner (powerHouse Cultural Entertainment, Inc., 2003)

Brett Ratner, director of the Rush Hour films as well as X-Men: The Last Stand and others, is perhaps the best-known owner of a photobooth, in large part thanks to this book. The book is a collection of photostrips produced by the booth in his Hollywood home, depicting everyone from Robert Evans (who also writes the foreword) to Chelsea Clinton to Quincy Jones.

All the expected Hollywood types are represented, as are some strange folks who seem to have come out of the woodwork to pose in the black and white booth. Most people, famous or not, end up looking pretty good in that well-lit photobooth way, though some folks look a little odd, minus the usual attention paid to their makeup and hair.

For keeping interest in traditional black and white photobooths alive, we owe something to Ratner and his book, but at least for us, the photobooth was never "lost" enough to need re-discovering.
