2012 INTERNATIONAL PHOTOBOOTH CONVENTION

Join Photobooth.net for the 2012 International Photobooth Convention, held this year in Southern California at Electric Lodge, a visual and performing arts center in Venice. The event will feature photobooth art, workshops, lectures, and other events, as well as collaborative photobooth art projects for all to participate in. We'd like to thank Classic Photo Booth, LLC and Foto-Mat Entertainment for each providing a vintage photochemical photobooth for the use of convention-goers.

An international event with a decade-long history, the Photobooth Convention is a "convention" in a tongue-in-cheek sense of the word; the IPC will be more grassroots than business suits. If you're a fan of the photochemical photobooth, we encourage you to stop by and check it out. The schedule is currently being finalized, with some of the weekend's events listed below.

PHOTOMATON: A 25th Anniversary Art Show

In the winter of 1987, New York City artist Bern Boyle organized the first major group show by artists working in the medium of the photobooth. The show, called "PHOTOMATON: A Contemporary Survey of Photobooth Art," brought together the work of thirteen artists from around the world who used the photobooth in a wide variety of ways. The catalog has been a touchstone for photobooth historians and artists in the years since, and many of the artists have gone on to enjoy careers in the field, with some even continuing to work with photobooth strips over the last three decades.

At the 2012 International Photobooth Convention, we will pay tribute to this groundbreaking show on its twenty-fifth anniversary by displaying original art from the 1987 show, as well as showcasing the work of these artists in the intervening years. The show will run both Friday and Saturday. Photobooth.net has also produced an update of the now hard-to-find PHOTOMATON catalog that will be available at the show.
