Join Photobooth.net and 312Photobooth.com for the 2009 International Photobooth Convention, held this year at Chicago's Center Portion artist project space in Logan Square. The convention serves as a gathering place for photobooth artists, enthusiasts, and the merely curious alike. Two vintage black and white photobooths as well as a newer digital booth will be on hand for the duration of the event.

For what's it's worth, we're using the word "convention" in a bit of a tongue-in-cheek way. The International Photobooth Convention will be more grassroots than business suits. Along with a gallery show of art created in and inspired by the photobooth, the convention will feature workshops, lectures, and other events, as well as collaborative photobooth art projects which we encourage visitors to participate in.

For those of you who can't make this year's festivities, the Convention will be Twittered, and we will be updating Photobooth.net with notes and photos throughout the event.

Please direct all inquiries to your convention organizers at convention [at] photobooth [dot] net. And if you're planning on coming to the convention from out of town, please send us an email as well to let us know.

Altered Photo Workshop

Saturday, April 4, 1:00 pm
Limited to 15 participants
RSVP via email required
Cost: $15, materials included.

This two hour workshop, guided by Chicago archtographist Anthony Vizzari, will focus on the hand manipulation of photographs. Participants will work with photobooth strips, Polaroids, and other chemical-based photographs. The workshop will be more of a lab than an instructional session, and experimentation will be encouraged!

Methods and media will include the following: inkjet transfers, gel medium transfers, acetone transfers, drawing, painting/tinting, cutting/punching, burning techniques, embellishment, scratching/scoring, and mounting.

By the end of the session, each participant will be asked to produce an altered photo piece that incorporates a photobooth photo. All final works will be displayed online at Photobooth.net. Materials, as well as photobooths on site and found photos for trial, will be provided.

To reserve a spot in the workshop, email convention [at] photobooth [dot] net. Fees payable on the day of the event.
